Roosevelt Island Grocery Rebellion

New, 5 comments

Roosevelt Island's one supermarket?a Gristedes?has long been savaged by complaints from island residents, so much so that FreshDirect and Duane Reade were greeted like gods descending from Olympus. (The store pays just $7/foot in rent, helping to keep it in business, residents theorize.) Now Roosevelt Islander reports that Gristedes owner John Catsimatidis basically apologized for the store's shortcomings and pledged to right the ship. If not, he'll be forced to eat the crap bananas he's peddling. [Roosevelt Islander]
