57 Irving Place Unveils Model Unit and Aims for the Art

Being uncultured swine, what caught our eye during our construction tour of 57 Irving Place was the motorized windows, long kitchen islands and marble-lined steam rooms in the nine-unit Gramercy building. But all during that visit, developer Robert Gladstone kept banging home the message that the building's all-glass facade (light!) and wide-open living spaces (room to roam!) make each full-floor apartment the perfect art gallery for its future owner's collection. He even pointed out that the walls are reinforced for hanging heavy pieces, which in our case meant visualizing our Little League trophies up there. The theme now continues with the unveiling of a 2,872-square-foot, 3BR, 3.5BA model unit filled with art and furniture curated by gallerist Cristina Grajales. Each piece even has a little plaque listing the artist and title, just like one of them museum thingies! But not quite, because the goal here is to sell the spaces, not the art, at prices starting at $6.75 million?or in collector's terms, nearly seven Superman comics.
