Herzog and de Meuron's Latest NYC Project Actually Gets Built

The site of their glass Jenga building may be gathering dust down in Tribeca, but celebrated architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron finally have completed an NYC follow-up to 40 Bond. And in a surprise twist, the Swiss mists have given up on stacking luxury condos in favor of what the Archpaper calls "post-apocalyptic ruins." A blunt commentary on the real estate market? Nope, it's a set for the Met's new production of Verdi's Atilla, premiering tonight last night. Pritzker winners designing theater sets? Suddenly our Thom Mayne hot tub idea seems a little less far-fetched.
