Developer Backs Off From Soho Rezoning Fisticuffs

New, 6 comments

For months, the threat of the wrecking ball has been hanging over 73-75 Sullivan Street. Developer Zaccaro Realty wanted to raze the old Sullivan Street Bakery and now-shuttered pasta maker at the site to build a five-story building with ground-floor commercial space and residential units up top. Zaccaro needed a zoning variance to set these plans in motion, and the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation reports in a joyful e-alert that it is not to be. The City Planning Commission was set to vote on the rezoning proposal today, but instead, Zaccaro has withdrawn the zoning application. The developer certainly wasn't finding a lot of friends in Soho, so maybe Zaccaro's just taking its plans somewhere they'll be wanted?
