Prospect Plaza Teardown Coming?

New, 6 comments

About 20 years after every other city on the east coast, New York City is considering knocking down a high-rise public housing complex for the first time. The complex in question is Brownsville's Prospect Plaza, which has been vacant since 2003, and which housing agency officials want to replace with new apartments. The New York City Housing Authority has already built 37 two-family houses and 150 rental units on nearby lots. But tenants, who were promised first dibs on new housing units at the site, are skeptical that the rest of the project will ever be finished. [NYT]
