Anything goes in the East Village, so when rising celebrity designers and reality television stars Bob and Cortney Novogratz announced they were working on a penthouse duplex atop a new townhouse in the 'hood, we were hoping the Sixx Design masterminds would be inspired to top their West Village wonder emporium. But their 3BR, 2.5BA, 2,700-square-foot spread at 238 East 4th Street (between Avenues A and B) has just hit the market, and?bummer alert?it's Novogratz Lite. Don't get us wrong, it's not that the 10.5' ceilings, woodburning fireplace, his and her walk-in closets and private rooftop aren't nice, it's just that, for $3.75 million in the East Village, we were at least hoping for a basketball dome. Still, if it rendered EV Grieve unconscious, it must be doing something right.
According to the Corcoran listing, once done the roof will be "the largest ipe-and-concrete decked terrace you've ever seen in the EV with sweeping Empire and Chrysler building views." Is there much competition? Just in case, they're kicking it up a notch: "Enclosed with sleek glass railings, this terrace is equipped with a Summer kitchen and wiring for outdoor theatre." That townhouse progress shot is via EV Grieve. The house is being built by designer/writer/TV personality Sue Hostetler, who will live in the bottom four floors. Here's the Novogratz'd duplex floorplan:

· East Fourth Street's Novogratz-designed penthouse now on the market [EV Grieve]
