Furniture Shortage at Ikea; Empty Blockbusters Ahead; More!

New, 1 comment

And now, the latest from Racked NY, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

1) Red Hook: As apartment-hunting season ramps up and the weather gets warm, Ikea in Red Hook is running out of furniture. Affordable furniture, at least. But there are still Swedish meatballs, for now.

2) NYC: Blockbuster might be closing more stores as it hurtles toward bankruptcy, including some of its 22 New York City locations. This could be a plus for other retailers, since Blockbuster stores are usually in easy-to-convert spaces. Or it could mean we're all stuck with nowhere to shop and nothing to watch.

3) Greenwich Village: Over on 7th Avenue and 14th Street, mom-and-pop pharmacy Elm Health has taken over a struggling Rite Aid. It's still got a ways to go to succeed?neighbors include Duane Reade and West Side Market?but in March Madness terms, this qualifies as an upset.
