Early Mourning for the Corn Exchange

New, 6 comments

Some glass-half-full Corn Exchange fans have been holding out hope for restoration at Park Avenue and East 125th Street. But this week's Streetscapes column reads more like a eulogy for the old gal. Who's to blame? The architects, owners, and DOB are all exonerated, and the Landmarks Preservation Commission is not designed for buildings "that no one wants at all." Still, the Corn Exchange is "hardly more than a flutter on a hospital monitor." Anyone have a defibrillator? [NYT; previously]
