The Dillon sure has taken its sweet time getting ready on West 53rd Street, but a bonkers vision like this cannot be rushed. The seven-story, 85-unit condo building takes up nearly a full block between Ninth and Tenth Avenues, and some units include scrim-like gates at street level while others will have "solar roof decks." The building first came to our attention in 2007, and it still doesn't look close to done, but all that angled glass is finally in place. This is the work of Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects, last seen around these parts slapping leaves on a Noho eyesore. The Dillon looks insane and kind of awesome, but who will actually want to live there? Maybe the reason construction is taking so long is so buyers can work on their upper bodies.
