Say what you will about his driving record and marital history, but Billy Joel's decision-making process seems sound when it comes to Manhattan real estate. He recently had his ivory-ticklers all over the gloriously renovated West Village townhouse at 23 Perry Street (now with his ex Katie Lee, who has it listed for $12.9 million), and he's just bought at Nolita's 211 Elizabeth Street, the Roman & Williams-designed brick building that's brand new but looks old. New York's JhoRo had the scoop on the purchase late yesterday, a $3.3 million deal for a 1,607-square-foot 2BR, 2BA unit on the third floor (it was listed for $3.375 million). The speculation is that the Piano Man bought the place for his daughter. All the listing photos are from 211 Eliz's model unit, so nothing new to see there, but we do have the uptown-meets-downtown floorplan to check out. Mazel tov to the Joels, but, uh, just try to stay clear of this mess.
