Green Convent Underway on Harlem's Convent Avenue

New, 5 comments

Blog Harlem Bespoke has been tracking the construction activity at 150th Street and Convent Avenue and reveals that the future occupant of the lot will be a convent. (Fitting!) Specifically, a green convent (right) designed by BKSK Architects for the Episcopal Sisters of the Community of the Holy Spirit, who sold their former 113th Street home to Columbia University. Plans include rooftop gardens, solar power-heated water, and a system for collecting rainwater. We get why the man upstairs would be in favor of nuns going green, but what happens when going green contributes to what opponents have called a diabolical plan? Sounds like an ethical conundrum!
