Upper East Side McMansions Approved by Landmarks Commission

New, 5 comments

The second time was the charm for developers the Chetrit Group, whose initial plan to turn a row of six down-on-their-luck East 76th Street townhouses into three single-family mansions with new rooftop additions met with some harsh criticism. The second version of the plan sported a less flashy look (above), and today the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the proposal in a 7-2 vote. The commissioners who opposed the plan objected to the size of the rooftop additions, while chairman Bob Tierney said the added floors will barely be visible. He added: "This row was close to total demolition, and we’ve come so far from there." Next up: Predictions on what prices these behemoths will hit the market for once completed!
