As the CHARAS Turns

The scaffolding is suddenly down at the old P.S. 64/CHARAS/El Bohio community center on Avenue B, and The Villager did a bit of asking around to see if the dormitory plan is moving ahead. The answer is unclear, but there are rumors building owner Gregg Singer?who butchered the landmark and left it to rot after his bid to add a multi-story addition was denied?is looking for a nonprofit theater company to take the basement theater space in order to qualify for tax benefits. A tragicomic staging of this saga would make a great first production! [The Villager; previously]
