If the 6,700-square-foot triplex "townhouse" unit at 57 Irving Place sounds like it was conceived in another era, that's because it was: Developers aren't lining up to build $18 million maisonettes with private garages and saltwater swimming pools these days. But the flashy building's flashiest apartment has found its match?the unit is now in contract. The deal hasn't closed so building reps wouldn't tell us the agreed-upon price, but we did learn that the buyer?a "prominent figure in the sports industry"?is seeing construction through to the end (i.e., no raw space discount). When it's completed this summer the triplex will have 4 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and a private garden to rub in the face of other 57 Irving buyers, who'll all be slumming it in Gramercy Park. Suckers!
