The Whitney Museum planned a pop-up art exhibition at Gansevoort and Washington streets to symbolize the museum's hopes for a new building at the High Line, and now the exhibit, which one curator called "subversive," is here. But is it subversive? Blog Vanishing New York thinks not, mainly because the artists were inspired by putting slices of fruit on a scanner. Says VNY: "When publicly displayed vinyl fruit slices, commissioned by the Whitney Museum, are called 'perverse' and 'subversive,' we're living in some alternate universe." [VNY]
