Most of condo conversion Ludlow Lofts hit the market in late 2007 to not much fanfare, and most units that closed in 2008 did so below asking prices in the low millions. But this new-to-market penthouse thinks it's something special. $5,068,500 worth of special, to be exact, or $1,500 for each of the unit's 3,379 square feet below Delancey Street. Why is this the second most expensive apartment listed on the Lower East Side (behind this condo)? It's the "developers own" triplex penthouse, with keyed elevator and "voluminous studio space with glass garage door & double height ceiling," in a building with hyped heated sidewalks and a neighborhood that, the brokerbabble points out, was crowned the city's second-best neighborhood behind Park Slope. Still, $5,068,500? Color us skeptical.
