The federal government is thinking about selling Plum Island now that its mysterious "research operations" are being moved to Kansas! The island, off the north fork of Long Island, is home to a defunct U.S. Army base, a lighthouse, some beaches and the tortured souls of all the animals killed in its disease lab. Groups are speaking out against the sale, and hoping it can be turned into a nature preserve or park. Stick a Water Taxi Beach on it and we're there, brahs. [NYDN]
