Back before the Lower East Side rezoning prevented such things, a mid-block sliver building started its 11-story climb at 136 Ludlow Street between Rivington and Stanton, right in the thick of Hell Square. But forever and ever, the completed building sat empty. Neighbors assumed the crapfest would be condos or rentals, but a tipster just forwarded the above pic proving that the building owner had something entirely different in mind.
Say hello to the LES's latest hotel, a 32-room Comfort Inn. Geography buffs may take issue with the following statement on the hotel's website: "Ideally located on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Comfort Inn® hotel is across from the United Nations." Our shell-shocked tipster could only complain that the building has no illuminated sign permit. Rooms are available on June 1 at $179/night. Hotel on Rivington: You have been warned!
