There were mutterings of controversy over a plan to put an Islamic cultural center at 45 Park Place near the World Trade Center site. But the plan sailed unanimously through Community Board 1's FiDi Committee last night. And the Daily News gives a hint why: the crazy glass-and-steel rendering at right. Inside what would be called the Cordoba House: an auditorium, swimming pool, and basketball court. The Cordoba Initiative, the group that wants to build the mosque, wouldn't have to worry about financing, either, with donations lined up to pay for the construction. The rest of the occasionally insane Community Board 1 will take a look later this month. Will this thing make it all the way through?
