The colorful new 8,000sqft playground in Long Island City's Gantry Park quietly opened over Memorial Day weekend, reminding us of all the good grass that had to die so these slides could live. If you recall, a chunk of the six-acre extension of the park was dug up last year not long after opening to make way for the off-again, on-again playground. The views might be just as good as those from Brooklyn Bridge Park, and so far the equipment seems less scalding and face-smashy. [liQcity]
