Despite a last-minute plea from Mayor Bloomberg not to do it, Governor Paterson signed the extension of the 1982 Loft Law last night. The protections guaranteed by the revised legislation go to tenants who'd been living in their lofts for at least a year as of 2008 or 2009. As a compromise, industrial business zones in Sunset Park and Southwest Brooklyn are not covered by the law. [NYT; previously]
