80 Met Spin-offs Step Into the Williamsburg Spotlight

With food by Pies 'n' Thighs and beers by Brooklyn Brewery, it felt like the boom years last night at a preview party for 58 Metropolitan Avenue, the sneaky second phase of developer Douglas Steiner's 80 Metropolitan smack dab in the middle of Williamsburg. Given all the drama at 80 Met over the years, can you blame the team for keeping its twin a bit quiet? Though the two share a common interior courtyard and amenities o' plenty, 58 Metropolitan's entrance is at the Kent Avenue intersection, and feels like a completely separate beast from its sister building.

The seven-story 58 Met is near completion and listings are now trickling onto the market. It features a mix of studios, 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, and every floor above the second features killer river views. According to Steiner's in-house construction team, the building tries to be everything that most new construction in Williamsburg isn't: thick concrete floors and walls to reduce noise, plentiful closets and thoughtful layouts to create livable units. Dreamy. But the main action is in the three-bedroom penthouses, which each have large, private terraces with dramatic views of the East River, bridges and Manhattan skyline.

So what's with the yard? It belongs to 59 North 1st Street, which is part of the third chapter in the 80 Met/58 Met/etc. story. Steiner Equities also built a row of single-family townhouses priced just over $1 million, and one of those was on view during the party as well. Photos of the Little House in the 'Burgie included in the gallery up above.
