Over at Eventi, the big slab-o-hospitality from Kimpton Hotels, all the attention is going to the bright lights facing Sixth Avenue and beyond. What's being missed is the expansive block-through plaza to the west of the 292-room, 54-story tower (the upper half of the building will be luxury rental apartments), where the superstructure for a video mega-screen is up. Guests in rooms facing the 10,000-square-foot plaza will have non-stop views of the 23-foot “art and media screen” where they'll be showing everything from corporate presentations and video art to live wedding coverage. Just another quirky addition to NoMad, WhoDi, "North Chelsea."
The screen and plaza, built over underground parking, face onto a multi-level indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar combo called Food Parc, a futuristic food court from Jeffrey Chodorow, opening in October. Maybe by then the Eventi folks will have worked out the kinks that left one hotel chatterer thinking less than pretti thoughts after a few nights overlooking Chelsea canyon. The Eventi folks are throwing a belated grand opening party tomorrow, so we'll have a look inside the place soon.
