On the heels of a U.S.-England World Cup match that threatens to set relations between the two nations back hundreds of years, the New York Times has apparently decided to start referring to apartments as "flats." Blog The NYTpicker notices numerous recent examples of this subtle yet dramatic shift and calls it the work of "pretentious wankers."
