The land has been cleared and the artificial turf wars are underway, but the real fun at future Long Island City waterfront industrial strip-turned-paradise Hunters Point South is just getting started. With a developer cage match! The city is accepting bids starting today for the first section of the project, 1,000 out of an eventual 5,000 apartments (plus shops, a school, and an an 11-acre park). Sixty percent of the apartments would go to families earning $63,000-$130,000/year, and that percentage could be higher if developer competition for the job?the city has high hopes the recession has made luxury developers desperate enough to bid?gets fierce enough. Stay tuned.
