Rejected Plaza Penthouse Finds Happiness With Casino Mogul

New, 9 comments

Despite its contentious past, Penthouse 2001 at the Plaza inspired quite the outpouring of Curbed commenter love when it returned to the market in May after a redesign. The penthouse's original buyer, a 30-something hedgie, backed out of the deal, suing Plaza developer El-Ad Properties for breach of contract and the return of his $6.5 million deposit. When the apartment came back up for sale, it was with a damaged goods discount, asking $24 million instead of the original $31M. There's a blow to the self-esteem! But PH2001 has found a taker once again, brokers tell the Journal's Josh Barbanel, and this time it's casino and resort magnate Steve Wynn. The sale allegedly closed today for a slightly discounted $23 million. Laugh all you want, haters.
