Gigantic mixed-use projects with big scary renderings tended to flame out when the credit crunch hit, but not Navy Green. The 460-unit-and-more! development on Flushing Avenue across the street from the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Fort Greene (or Wallabout, if you prefer) entered public review last year, and now Brownstoner reports ground has broken. It looks like the Navy will get Green in phases?the construction permit covers only a piece of the block-long behemoth. Above is a fresh and less menacing rendering from L+M Development Partners that in no pays tribute to the old prison that used to be on this site. A real missed opportunity, if you ask us.
