The days of interactive starchitecture have come to an end on the Upper Bowery, now that Cooper Union has added rows of metal spikes to the sloped concrete pillar on its new Thom Mayne-designed academic building. That's the same column that has become popular with skaters, bikers, freestyle walkers and other extreme dudes, and while the school has tried to put the brakes on such lawsuit-baiting revelry in the past, this seems awfully harsh, and awfully permanent. As always, we blame our parents.
