As if single-room-occupancy hotels weren't already rocking on their heels during these days of luxury conversions (the Jane, the Ace, etc.), a lawyer representing three Upper West Side SROs calls the new illegal hotel law the death knell for the cheap, bathroom-down-the-hall lodging option. SROs used to be in compliance with the law as long as most of the building housed long-term tenants, like the bohos and hobos we associate with SROs, but that's no longer the case. Lawsuit forthcoming! [Real Deal; previously]
