As we mentioned over the weekend, Tamir Sapir?ex-taxi driver, real estate mogul, and enemy of animals everywhere who want to keep their hides?finally found a buyer for the Duke Semans mansion at 1009 Fifth Avenue. He picked the place up for $40 million in 2006, and the deal to sell was rumored to be around the same price. That deal has just hit public record, and it's actually a little higher: $44 million. (The place was asking $50 million, so the gap hasn't been entirely closed.) The buyer, cloaked behind the name Metro RE LLC, is reportedly Russian, but isn't NYC's favorite Russian property hunter Mikhail Prokhorov. Given that Sapir never did his planned renovation and the new owner will probably need to gut the place, maybe the detail shots were what made the sale?
