Sold Greenwich Village Townhouse Leaves a Mystery Behind

New, 1 comment

The Greek Revival-style doorway of the 1831 townhouse at 123 Washington Place has allegedly been filmed for "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," and maybe nobody wanted a house that might have a camera pointed at the front door. When it came on the market in 2008 for $9.995 million, no one picked it up, even after a $1 million chop. It doesn't appear to have come back for sale officially, but the house sold in June in a deal that hit public record late yesterday. The final price? $4.8 million. Perhaps the front door's next appearance will be in the PriceChopper Hall of Fame.
The buyer is hidden behind an LLC, but the address listed in ACRIS is 9 Leroy Street. So it appears that not only did the new owner of the townhouse at 122 Washington Street just buy the townhouse at 7 Leroy Street, but the owner of 9 Leroy Street just bought 123 Washington Place. This is either crazy coincidence, a story of very friendly neighbors, or a larger Village mystery that all the LLC-cloaked purchases are keeping us from cracking.
