Brooklyn's Landmark Fast Food Joint Doesn't Last Long

New, 20 comments

It was an odd thing seeing an Arby's pop up at 372 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn's Fulton Mall earlier this year. The spot once housed the legendary Gage and Tollner restaurant, which was made one of the city's few interior landmarks. It was a grand setting for serving up Beef 'n Cheddar Melts?maybe too grand. Brownstoner reports the restaurant has already closed. The process of getting the Arby's approved by the LPC lasted nearly as long as the Arby's itself, but surely the roast beef purveyor's delicious fare isn't to blame for the failure. We'll pin this rap on the Gage and Tollner ghosts.
