Rent Wars

New, 2 comments

There's a war brewing between the merchants at the South Bronx's huge restaurant-supplyin' Hunts Point Market and the city agency that regulates it. The merchants and the Business Integrity Commission agreed to a $320 million redesign of the outdated facility, but can't agree on just how much the merchants will have to pay in rent. While they negotiate, and some vendors threaten to leave, Philadelphia (Booooo!) is finishing up its new produce market and planning to lure away Hunts Point customers. The plot thickens! [Crain's]
