Arrested Development

Some East New York properties have been converted to boardinghouses for ex-cons and the homeless under the cover of night, causing complaints from worried neighbors. We've seen the shelter switcheroo before, but the response from one of the boardinghouse managers is a bit stronger than usual: "[The neighborhood] can fight me until they're blue in the face; I'm not going anywhere. Every person in this community knows someone who's a crackhead or was incarcerated. Sooner or later, the same people who are complaining are going to require my services." [NYP]
