NYU Makes Sure Scarano-on-the-Bowery is on God's Side

New, 2 comments

John Legend won't have to go far to blow his shofar this year. Two commercial condo units in his building, 52 East 4th Street?architect Robert Scarano's oddest Bowery creation to date?have been bought by Chabad, the Orthodox Jewish organization, property records show. Not just any Chabad, but the Chabad of NYU, which is currently headquartered at 27 Washington Square North according to its website, which sports the awesome URL nyujews.com. Bowery observers have been watching the building's retail situation closely, especially since an upscale flea market opened and closed in about two seconds. We don't think the Chabad deal was for the primo street-level space, and we're also not sure if the $3.6 million price includes the use of the luxury condo building's pool as a mikveh.
