In the Rezone

Even though there are about 897 proposed rezoning plans for Chinatown, two are being set up as the main rivals: the developers' plan modeled after the 125th Street rezoning, and the new plan from a coalition of community groups, which calls for new construction in the area to go no higher than the current five- and six-story buildings. That should make the developers' hoped-for "signature gateway buildings" on Centre Street and the Bowery a bit of a tough sell. [WSJ; previously]
