Graffiti Not Welcome in New Bowery Shopping District

New, 1 comment

Extra Place hasn't quite turned into the "slice of the Left Bank" that developer AvalonBay envisioned when it set its sights on the Bowery-adjacent alley behind what was once CBGB, but some businesses have indeed set up shop on the paved-over promenade. Now, the next phase: De-grittification! Much like what happened along the High Line when it got ready to welcome a mass audience, most of the graffiti has been removed from the walls of Extra Place, EV Grieve reports. But fear not, Bowery nostalgists, "the doorway that serves as a small shelter... where, depending on the day, you can find used condoms and needles, is still in use as a toilet." Phew!
· Extra Place now mostly graffiti free, though the toilet remains [EV Grieve]
