Another Stuy Town copycat case bites the dust: a judge ruled this week that the tenants of the Upper East Side's Clermont York could not sue their landlord over rent. The Clermont tenants claimed the building accepted tax credits in 1997-98, and that units decontrolled between 1993 and 1997 should go back to stabilized rents. The judge said he didn't think the tenants should bypass the Division of Housing and Community Renewal with their case. Said one lawyer, "The predicted [post-Stuy Town] confusion is starting to occur." Finally! [WSJ]
