The Brooklyn Eagle checks in on the new Fairfield Inn & Suites on Third Avenue in Gowanus, which will surprise those not expecting much from the latest hotel to pop up near the canal. The 12-story "eco-friendly, tech-savvy hotel" has all sorts of features, including a rooftop bar that will hopefully be less controversial than the one at Hotel Le Bleu. Also surprising: The developer's insistence that this is Downtown Brooklyn. Guess that means they won't be charging by the hour. [Brooklyn Eagle]
