More FiDi Construction Sites Get Makeovers; DOB Wary of Earl

New, 3 comments

FIDI?The Alliance for Downtown New York's mission to make Lower Manhattan construction eyesores less ugly, officially dubbed the Re:Construction public art program, continues with three new pieces by New York City artist Richard Pasquarelli. The first, "Restore the View," was just unveiled on the Fiterman Hall site at 30 West Broadway. The other two works are "Secret Gardens," to be installed at the Chambers Street road construction project, and "Hours of the Day," at the new W Hotel's "piazza." Meanwhile, the ArchPaper is wondering where the hell the Alliance's scaffolding game-changing UrbanShed prototype is hiding. [CurbedWire Inbox; ArchPaper]

NYC?Hurricane Earl might ruin Labor Day weekend, and the Department of Buildings is pretty ticked off, so they're taking it out on contractors, developers and landlords. The DOB issued an inclement weather advisory, telling everyone to secure their construction sites and buildings because they'll "be performing random spot-check inspections of construction sites around the city. If construction sites are not safely secured in preparation for the inclement weather, the Department will take immediate enforcement action with the issuance of violations and Stop Work Orders if necessary."
