We're still waiting for the winner of the city's UrbanSHED arrested development sidewalk shed prettification competition to exist in real life. But in the meantime, why not another building beautification contest? The city has announced the finalists of Urbancanvas, its latest contest. In this one, almost everyone's a winner: up to half of the eight finalists will get monetary prizes, and building owners who sign up for the urbancanvas pilot program will have the option to use one of the four winning designs on their property. The entries are now up for public vote. As an alternative to one of these, building owners can also put up giant images of the buildings they're actually building.
