In the NYT's Habitats column, the daughter of a civil rights leader explains why she's lived in the same UWS apartment for 30 years: "I know the neighborhood has changed a lot, but there's still something about the West Side that feels very democratic. Our housekeeper lives two blocks away. There's still socioeconomic diversity. Not as much as there used to be, but it's still here." Also the sub-$2,000 stabilized rent for a pre-war Classic 6 might have something to do with it. [NYT]
