Yesterday one of the financial backers behind Park51, the proposed Islamic community center two blocks from the World Trade Center branded as the "ground zero mosque," said he's be willing to sell the property if the right offer presented itself. Hisham Elzanaty said he'd already been offered three times the $4.8 million paid for the Park Place site, but "if someone wants to give me 18 or 20 million dollars today, it's all theirs." Now that's our type of negotiating! So who will rescue us from the terrifying terrorist-funded terror mosque o' terror? Why, Donald Trump, of course! But he's got some conditions.
The Donald has already come out against the building of Park51, but there is more publicity to be squeezed form this stone, so he's released a letter to Elzanaty announcing his desire to buy the property, offering 25% above the previous purchase price. Far less than 18 or 20 million, but he'll pay cash! Oh, and he wants a promise from the Park51 people that any mosque they build in the future has to be "at least five blocks further from the World Trade Center site." Donald Trump: tougher than zoning laws! He also takes a hilarious shot at Financial District real estate. Here it is, hot off Trumpster's typewriter.
UPDATE: Trump went on TMZ Live to discuss his proposal, because that's where all serious potential real estate transactions are discussed. Watch the video here. Choice quote: "I have much better real estate, believe me. This is not good real estate at all."
