Diller Scofidio and Renfro Tapped for New Columbia Buildings

New, 2 comments

Columbia University's Manhattanville campus expansion is by no means starving for starchitecture. Steven Holl is designing an athletic facility (even if the neighbors would prefer to forget about it), and Renzo Piano is hard at work on the brains building. What the university's plans haven't had as much of is homegrown starchitecture. Until now! The Observer reports that Lincoln Center transformers Diller Scofidio and Renfro will design two buildings for Columbia's business school. They won the job thanks to what Columbia President Lee Bollinger calls their "beautiful, important architectural successes that have been thoughtfully integrated into the surrounding urban fabric." But this is one surrounding urban fabric that might prove to be a bit more starchitect-resistant.
