Tobacco Warehouse Opponents Air Developer's Dirty Laundry

New, 2 comments

As the fight over Dumbo's Tobacco Warehouse heats up, opponents of the handover to theater group St. Ann's Warehouse have brandished their greatest weapon?embarrassing Walentas family e-mails that actually have nothing to do with the fate of the warehouse. Last week, the Brooklyn Paper aired one piece of developer Jed Walentas's dirty laundry, a 2009 e-mail about avoiding "a total racial mess" at Two Trees' Dock Street Dumbo project. Today, the Daily News has a few more gems from the Walentas inbox. Here's Jane Walentas, complaining about a Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy proposal to put her carousel at the end of New Dock Street instead of in Empire Fulton Ferry Park: "Without us, there never would have been a Dumbo." As far as the actual Tobacco Warehouse lawsuit, the Brooklyn Paper reports that a judge will hold an expedited hearing on the case next Thursday.
