LES Tenants Sue Landlord; Apthorp Names Creative Director

New, 8 comments

LOWER EAST SIDE?How bad are conditions at 101 Stanton Street? Bad enough that the seven resident currently in the 15-unit building are dragging their landlord to court. The tenants and attorneys from the Urban Justice Center announced a lawsuit to have the building deemed "effectively abandoned" and transferred to an independent administrator to make repairs. The building has 130 code violations, including cracked and broken floors, walls and ceilings, a nasty roach and rodent infestation and defective everything, residents allege. The residents have also been without cooking gas since June, and the few repairs are "illegally and shoddily completed without work orders," they say. So...when can we move in? [CurbedWire Inbox]

UPPER WEST SIDE?Here's a twist in The Apthorp saga that we never saw coming: The building now has a creative director. Interior designer Stephen Sills, whose clients have included Vera Wang and Anna Wintour, will select "colors, finishes, appointments and cabinetry for the landmark’s public and private spaces including the four distinctive lobbies and dramatic model residence."
