Man Pays $29 Million to Get Out of 15 Central Park West

Developer William Zeckendorf took home $40 million last month for his 41st-floor condo at his own 15 Central Park West, breaking the city's per-square-foot sales price record. Nice work if you can get it! But Zeckendorf didn't have quite the same dealmaking success with his next buy, the co-op at 927 Fifth Avenue that belonged to late investment banker Bruce Wasserstein. The place went up for a one-day auction in November, asking $26 million. There must have been a bidding war, because the deal has hit public record, and Zeckendorf paid $29,101,890 for the 11th-floor unit. We'd still count this as a victory for new development. The listing never gave us a peek inside Wasserstein's old place, but hey, the views are nice.
