Blogger Scouting NY was walking down Park Avenue between 36th and 37th streets one recent night when he looked down a sidewalk grate and saw this 150-foot hole. It appears to be a ventilation shaft for the LIRR, but what we'd really like to know is how the MTA worker standing where that green light is managed to get cell phone reception.
