Looks like we've got some international beef! The Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities just sent a letter to Bloomberg expressing dismay at what they consider the neglect of "Cleopatra's Needle" in Central Park. Their letter reads "Recent photographs that I have received show the severe damage that has been done to the obelisk, particularly to the hieroglyphic text, which in places has been completely worn away." to which the Parks Department retorted "We have great regard for this Egyptian artifact, one of the few true antiquities in our vast parks monuments collection" and saying that there is going to be no conservation work done on it. We can't admit to having walked by the 3,500 year old artifact recently, but it would be a shame to lose a piece like this to neglect.
