Year of the Residential Conversion Makes it to Queens

Office buildings are going residential all over the place?including, now, Rego Park, Queens. Developer Richard LeFrak is planning to convert a 13-story office tower his father built 50 years ago into a 108-unit luxury rental, according to the Journal. It's an unusual play, for the neighborhood and for the family. The LeFraks hope that the growing population of young people and immigrants in Queens will fill up the building, which also happens to be the family's first residential project in Queens in 38 years. (In fact, it will be their first new residential project in NYC in 28 years.) Details about the conversion project itself are sparse. Anyone got more? Drop 'em in comments. In the meantime, let's just hope the LeFrak Organization doesn't obscure the views.
